WICKLOW JUNIOR COACHING NOTICESPRING 2011

Spring coaching starts week commencing 31st January in line with the school
term. The programme takes an integrated approach so that children can
move seamlessly from Mini tennis to Midi tennis to Full
court tennis. The coaching element will develop and
consolidate sound technique and tactics which will
allow the player to compete effectively in both singles
and doubles.

Coaching for girls aged 12 – 16.

Many thanks to the senior ladies, Marie Haughton, Nora Dunne, Maeve McCarthy and Caroline Geraghty who have been assisting many of the junior girls aged 11 – 16 with coaching on a Saturday evening. This has proven to be very successful with the girls, gaining skills and confidence. This will cease for July and August but will return in September.

There is a choice of five Summer Camps starting at the end of June for all junior members aged from four to sixteen years

Wicklow Tennis Club - Coaching Philosophy

With regard to junior players, there is no substitute for starting right. It is so much easier for a junior player to learn the right techniques from a young age, than to develop the wrong techniques and have to `undo` them later on. A good coach can make this learning process fun, thus helping children improve quickly and motivating them to continue to be active club members for many years.

Our coaching programme has been put in place by our coaching organiser Peter Farrell. Peter is a highly qualified and experienced coach and we are extremely fortunate to have his services available to our club. Peter has two other qualified coaches working with him and between them, they provide on-going coaching to about 150 children of all ages and abilities.

Our Coaches

We currently have three coaches working at the Club, in an effort to deliver a comprehensive coaching programme to all members.

Peter Farrell (086 822 8235) is our Club Coach. His recent appointment to a Development position with Tennis Ireland, the games governing body, means that his role at the Club has changed slightly. Peter will now concentrate on setting up, monitoring and developing the coaching programme. Although he will spend less time on court, he remains available for individual and `small group` coaching. Please contact him if you have any queries about the programme as a whole, or if you are looking for individual lessons.

John Brady (086 259 6965) has been coaching at the Club for many years, and runs the very popular General Coaching Programmes and camps.

David Sheehan (087 8166525) a registered coach since 1991 has recently joined Wicklow Tennis Club in Sept 2007. He formally spent 7 years coaching at David Lloyd Riverview where he held the position of Racquet's manager and Head Pro. He is currently working in the development section of the junior program, running the rusty rackets program and is also giving private lessons on a weekly basis .To contact, please call David at the above number.
